Facts about spiders

Do spiders ever sleep
Although little research exists on spider sleep,
spiders are known to have circadian rhythms,
or daily periods of activity and rest. Activity
cycles vary by species. Certain spiders are
mainly active at night; others take care of business
during the day. ... While inactive, the spiders'
metabolism slows.

What do spiders eat
Their usual food is insects and
other spiders but some of
the larger species have been seen
to eat other small animals such as
millipedes, woodlice (slaters),
and even small lizards, frogs,
and birds. But one kind of food that
spiders normally do not eat is plant material

What can spiders do to people
Spiders do not feed on humans and typically bites occur as a defense mechanism.
This can occur from unintentional contact or trapping of the spider. Most spiders
have fangs too small to penetrate human skin.

Do spiders bite you in your sleep
Here are some facts: Unless you are sleeping on the basement floor, a spider might
wander onto your bed as often as twice a year. ... If a spider does get on a bed, usually
no bite will result. Spiders have no reason to bite humans; they are not bloodsuckers,
and are not aware of our existence in any case.

Can spiders see in the dark
Most spiders have eight eyes. ... The reflected light also creates what's called “
eyeshine,” which is why cats' eyes seem to glow in the dark. It's also why you can
see spiders' eyes glowing bright green in the night, if you know how to look: light
reflects off their tapeta, and they're looking in your direction.

What does a spider do?
All spiders are carnivorous, Most spiders eat insects but a few of the larger species are big enough to prey on small vertebrate animals like mice or small birds. Most spiders' jaws work from side to side. They have toothed edges used in breaking up the prey during feeding.
